About us

Located in the heart of Tokyo (Yoyogi Uehara, Shibuya ward), Ola Pilates Studio dedicates itself to Pilates, providing lessons to meet the modern individuals’ needs. Our approach to Pilates is based on BASI (Body Arts and Science International ®) Pilates method, a combination of classical Pilates developed by Joseph Pilates, contemporary experience and scientific knowledge that is pertinent to our day-to-day lives.

The studio name Ola is a Hawaiian expression meaning “Life” – the word also carries the connotation of Health, Liveliness and Healing.

We, the founders of Ola Pilates Studio, encountered Pilates during our times of stress-induced illness and poor health. Through Pilates, we have both regained our health, vitality and a positive attitude toward life. Pilates has built the foundation of our daily well-being both physically and mentally, and that has made our life vigorous again.

That is exactly the concept of "Return to Life", Joseph Pilates advocated. With the advancement of modern technology, people nowadays are living in "high-speed" society. There is no chance to be entirely free from nervous tension, people are suffering from more and more physical fatigue, mental strain and stress than old days. Those stress-related physical and mental disorder prevent us from enjoying active life, and consequently deteriorate the quality of life itself.

Pilates is known as to help us simply to build a good posture, strengthen core muscles, and learn functional movement, but the most remarkable thing about Pilates is that Pilates teaches us how to take "control" of our body and mind. Control means to have awareness of our bodily movement and it is also called "balance of body and mind". Once we find a perfect balance of body and mind, it helps us to regain physical fitness and mental energy, and that leads to bring back the "pleasurable life".

Pilates for Everyone

Pilates is famous to be prevalent among dancers, athletes and celebrities but getting a better posture and learning functional movements are highly beneficial and essential to everyone. Furthermore, as the world's population ages, it is quite important for all of us to maintain a good quality of life for the entire lifetime.

We have many different clients at Ola Pilates Studio - from the elderly to the young, women and men, in pregnancy and after delivery, athletes and many of those who are completely new to exercising or have exercise restriction - and everyone is coming to do Pilates for their own "health" and "life". Our mission is to deliver the meaning and value of Pilates to everyone who wishes to keep and improve the quality of life. By carefully examining each client's goals, physical and mental condition, we create the best program for their present and future.

Send an e-mail to studio@olapilates.com with a couple of your available date and time slots. We would appreciate it if you could let us know, if any, the reason or goal to do Pilates, special requests or wishes, physical concerns or exercise restrictions.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please notify us by e-mail at least 24 hours in advance.
Cancellation or rescheduling within 24 hours will be charged as follows:
■ On the day of your appointment: 100%
■ On the day before your appointment: 50%
■ No-shows without notification: 100%

How to walk from Yoyogi-uehara station

Go down the stairways in front of the ticket gate, then go straight forward to East Exit
Get out of East Exit and turn left in front of Daiso (100 yen shop)
Turn right at the first corner, between the flower shop and the cleaners
Go straight about 3 minutes then find Kakuyasu (liquor shop) at the left
Ola Pilates Studio is at the 2nd floor of the building right next to Kakuyasu
(The basement floor is a women’s clothing store and the ground floor is an Italian restaurant)
